extracurriculars from otc:

During my time at OTC, I participated in a handful of extracurriculars that helped to guide my education as well as keep me involved in the OTC community. I wouldn't be where I am or who I am without these fine folks, and I am immensely grateful for them. Below, you will find descriptions of these clubs/organizations I was able to participate in, as well as a gallery of photos.

honors program:

At the beginning of my second semester at OTC, I became enrolled in the Honors Program. This would change my life. Through the program, I was able to take more discussion based honors courses, as well as volunteer within the Springfield community. My second semester in Honors, I became an officer for the Honors Council. My job title was VP of Fundraising. I was in charge of organizing the bake sales and other various fundraising events the program held throughout the semester. This funding helped benefit our snack pantry in the honors room in addition to allocating a certain amount to the new Honors Program Endowment Fund. I presented my first research project at the OTC Honors Conference in 2018. This program opened a door for me that I never knew was possible. It not only strengthened who I am as a leader, but also provided me the road to further my education. For these things, I am eternally grateful.

phi theta kappa (pTK):

At the beginning of my third semester at OTC, I joined Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). This national honor society for community colleges also taught me a lot about being a leader. One of the coolest things I was able to do with my time in PTK was participate in the Honors in Action (HIA) project. Together, a handful of us wrote and performed a script for a readers theater centered on the Bald Knobbers. (The Bald Knobbers were a group of vigilantes in the southeastern portion of Missouri in the late 1800s.) We took great pride in this project, and it eventually went on to win an award at Catalyst, the national annual PTK conference. Several people from the group, myself included, were able to travel to Kansas City to attend this conference in April of 2018. Our chapter, Alpha Si Tau, was recognized for numerous awards. This was hands-down one of the coolest experiences of my life. It was humbling to be a part of something this grandeur.

ENGLISH CLUB:

My second-to-last semester at OTC, I also began to participate in the OTC English Club. The main thing we focused on in this club was hosting fun events at the school to fund-raise for what we call the Go Anywhere Literary Magazine. This magazine is OTC's annual literary publication, showcasing visual and written art from OTC students, faculty, and alumni. The magazine is a collection of photographs, paintings, poetry, short stories, non-fiction prose, graphic storytelling, etc. During the fall, English Club fund-raises through book related events. During the spring semester, these funds are used in concurrence with group effort to edit and publish the Literary Magazine. During my time in this club, I had the opportunity to participate with the editing team for the magazine in 2018, and have had my work published in it both in 2018 and 2019. You can find the current three volumes of the lit mag on Amazon. You can find them by searching: "Go Anywhere Literary Magazine".
